JOHNSON CITY — St. James Middle School is a spiritual and academic community based on the beliefs, practices, and traditions of the Roman Catholic faith. We welcome all families who share our values and who seek a faith-based, scholarly education for grades 4 through 8. Leading by example, we celebrate and respect the inherent value of all people and welcome families of other religious traditions. With a dedicated faculty, we are committed to providing a nurturing environment that reflects God’s providence. We encourage and expect parental involvement as we inspire, challenge and guide our students to exceed the academic standards set forth by New York State. Through Christian faith, academic excellence, family, and discipline, we strive to insure that every student becomes a life-long learner, a compassionate individual and a moral citizen of our society.
Nurturing Academic Excellence
As spring arrives at St. James WE ARE BUSY DOING GOD’S WORK. Traditional classroom learning is functioning at full speed ahead, interrupted only by state testing. Activities, events and other happenings, including music lessons, spring sports practice, and theatre rehearsal, all continue at a very rapid pace, as the ski season and the national basketball tourney winds down.
“O.M.” — Odyssey of the Mind, kicks into its final stages with one of our three teams headed to the state tournament. Our school’s championship Drug Quiz Show team was for the first time ever represented by a very talented 5th grade group of “brainiest” who faced off in overtime twice with a ME team made up of all of 8th graders.
The Class of 1950 has graciously stepped in to continue their support of the school and to donate some funding so that we might help out two families with the price increase for tuition for the coming year. Costs are a real issue for all of us, while there is not better investment than a Catholic Education — as the dividends are extraordinary and last a lifetime!
Field trip planning is just about complete. Annual day trips feature: Grade 4 – Ellis Island, Grade 5 – Genesee Country Village, Grade 6 – Medieval Fair, with the following charter bus overnight special adventures: Grade 7 – Frost Valley and Grade 8 – Williamsburg, Va.
