Syracuse Catholic school offers a priceless education

speaches_historyThis year, the Bishop’s Academy at St. Charles School community continues to create an environment where children are encouraged to grow and walk in the sprit of Jesus in the way they treat each other and in how they respond to the needs of those who need their help; to instill high learning standards and have academic excellence as a constant goal.

Food for the Poor – Everything for a Family with Nothing

The service project for this year was to raise enough money to build a simple home and provide a family with a year’s worth of food. The students reached their goal of $3,582. The family will also receive a small business project to get them on their feet again, school supplies for two children (including books and uniforms) and clothing and shoes.

Easter Plants for the Homebound and Parishioners in Nursing Homes

flowers09As their Lenten Project, the Student Council decided to raise funds to bring an Easter plant to parishioners who are homebound and in nursing homes. It was a great experience for students, parents and teachers to witness the joy on their faces because they were remembered.

Greater Syracuse Scholastic Science Fair (GSSSF)

Bishop’s Academy at St. Charles fifth and sixth grade students recently participated in the GSSSF. Nine students participated and they received nine awards for their Science Projects.
Sixth Grade: Jake Waddington (Certificate of Participation), Ryan Biggs and Nicholas Bogardus (Honor Award), Josh Popp (High Honor Award & New York State Skeptic Award), Christian Toia ( Highest Honor Award & New York State Skeptic Award).
Fifth Grade: Michaela Pullano (Certificate of Participation), Matthew Hosek (Lockheed Martin Award), Jessica Villi (Honor Award), Madison Cook (Honor Award & Lockheed Martin Award).

Drug Quiz Team Wins Second Round

drug_quiz09The school’s Drug Quiz Team won their second round of competition. They will go on to compete at the regional level, at the Marley Center on the SU Campus, on Wednesday, April 22nd.
All the best to Rosemary DiMaria, Kyle Root Chris Toia, Alyssa Taddeo, Josh Popp and Lewis Kibling.

Grade Five Oratorical Speeches

Fifth grade students presented their oratorical speeches last Thursday. They each chose a famous speech to recite and dressed like the particular character they were portraying. They did a great job and received rave reviews. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to engage in public speaking.

Smart Board Technology
All students in pre-k through sixth grade have been using the school’s latest addition to technology, the Smart Board. Thanks to a grant from the Diocesan Heritage Funds, the administration was able to purchase two Smart Boards to enhance student learning. They are quite the hit!
