St. Mary’s School in Clinton feeds students’ minds, bodies and spirits

At St. Mary’s School, it isn’t all academics. While the strength of St. Mary’s School is in its curriculum and faculty, there is a strong focus on providing physical and spiritual enrichment for all students.
Athletics is a central component at St. Mary’s. Students in kindergarten through second grade are offered a 12 week basketball program that lays a foundation for future participation. Fundamentals of the game, fitness, skills development, sportsmanship and team spirit are stressed. Parish teams, led by parent and parish volunteers, are offered in third through sixth grade in basketball, cross-country and track.
St. Mary’s Catholic identity is incorporated into the day with morning and afternoon prayers, as well as weekly liturgy readings and monthly Masses prepared by the students. The Virtues Program, lead by parent volunteers, brings attention to a virtue by using drama and student participation. This program has reinforced the need for daily prayer using a variety of methods including the rosary, meditation and scripture reading.
The small school size promotes individualized attention with the extra benefit being the daily integration of Christian values. St. Mary’s students excel academically — of equal importance they develop an understanding of citizenship and ethical behavior.
