Joseph and Barbara (Klonowski) Casper of Baldwinsville, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 11. Their celebration began with a Mass at the chapel of St. Mary’s Assumption Church in Baldwinsville. There was a reception following the Mass, organized by their children.
Joseph and Barbara were married at Holy Family Church in Auburn, N.Y. on June 9, 1951. Together they raised four children: Theresa, married to Anthony Fulgieri of Geneva, N.Y.; Barbara, married to Patrick Canale of Jamesville; Joseph, married to Amy (Ramsgard) of Baldwinsville; and James, married to Faith (DeSain) of Austin, Texas. Joseph and Barbara have 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Joseph graduated from the University of Detroit in 1958 with an electrical engineering degree after a four-year tour with the navy. He was employed by General Electric from 1958 until his retirement in 1990. During that time they lived on Kwajalein, a remote island in the South Pacific, where he installed a radar system, and later lived in Scotland, U.K. for two years supporting the R.A.F.
The Caspers have traveled extensively both internationally and in the states. They made religious pilgrimages to the Holy Land, Ephesus, Fatima, Lourdes, Medjugorje, Knock, and many other sites where saints have been laid to rest, including St. James Tomb in Compostella, Spain. They continue to make yearly pilgrimages to visit the Canadian shrines: Saint Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal, Saint Anne de Beaupre Basilica in Quebec and Madeleine of the Cape at Three Rivers.
Joe is an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. Barbara taught religious education for many years and together they are active in their parish community.
