St. Bernard’s gearing up for fall classes

Anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith can register for classes at St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry with convenient access in the Syracuse Diocese.

Father Jim Lang, Vicar for Parishes for the diocese, said many are taking advantage of the hospitality offered at Le Moyne College for class sessions. Others, he explained, are traveling to Rochester or Albany for particular courses or participation at the video conferencing sites in Auburn, Syracuse and Apalachin.

“We’re looking to find another location in the Utica/Rome area,” Father Lang added.

Father Lang described the typical student as “an adult learner over the age of 35 who is interested in widening their theological horizons.” Students can sign up and arrange to complete the degree or they can take courses they find interesting.

“They can matriculate for a degree or take a class as an enrichment course by auditing,” Father Lang said.

So far, feedback from students has been very positive, he said. Bringing this option into the Syracuse Diocese is another way the diocese can prepare for the future, Father Lang said. The courses are offered on a rotating basis so that they will always be available to students.
