The Franciscan Place is run in cooperation with the Franciscan Church of the Assumption in Syracuse and is located on the Commons level of the mall. Shoppers can spend quiet time in the worship chapel in the back of the facility or purchase religious merchandise such as cards, medals and rosaries in the front of the store.

The anniversary service, which was attended by more than 100 people, was held at the top floor of the mall, known as the “Skydeck,” featuring large windows that offer a panoramic view of the city of Syracuse. The Skydeck is not a retail floor and is only accessible to the public for special events.    “It was an incredible celebration of faith,” stated Rosemary Costa, OFS, director of the Franciscan Place and a member of the Secular Franciscan Order.

Following the end of the Mass, Father Justin Biase, OFM Conv., Minister Provincial of Immaculate Conception Province of the Conventual Franciscans, shared memories of the first discussions with mall personnel about opening the Franciscan Place.

“People kept telling us that we needed to go where the people were and we realized the people were at the mall,” laughed Father Biase.
