Obituary Sister Marie Carbery, OSF

  Sister Marie (former Sister M. Dorcas), 80, went home to God Nov. 17, 2013. She was born in Syracuse, N.Y. to James and Alice Monahan Carbery.  She had been a Sister of St. Francis for 62 years.
   Sister Marie was an excellent educator for more than 30 years, having received a bachelor’s degree in history from Le Moyne College, Syracuse, and a master’s degree in education from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, N.Y.
   She taught in N.Y. and N.J. and served as school principal at St. Anthony, Camden, N.J.; St. Martha’s, Sarasota, Fla., St. Daniel School, Syracuse, N.Y.; and St. Peter School in Utica, N.Y. She was also involved in directing Religious Education Programs at St. Rose of Lima and Holy Trinity parishes in Syracuse.
   Sister Marie is survived by her brother Charles and his wife Irene, a sister Janet Carbery, and by the Sisters of St. Francis. Three brothers, John, Robert and Michael and a sister, Sister Rose Alice, OSF, predeceased her.
   Sister Marie will be remembered for her many years of devoted service to her Community and by thousands of children and their families who experienced her kindness, gentleness and understanding ways.
   Her Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Anthony Convent Chapel in Syracuse on Nov. 23, 2013. Interment followed at Assumption Cemetery.
