The Franciscan Place announces reopening

The Franciscan Place, located on the lower level of Destiny USA, announced that it will be reopening April 21 after an extensive renovation to add more space.
The expansion doubles the size of both the chapel area and the retail store. The chapel will now hold 100 people for services and will be separated from the noise of the store by beautiful new glass doors. The retail store will hold many more religious items for Confirmations, First Communions and other special occasions.
This haven in the mall serves approximately 500 people each week. “The store helps fund the expenses of the chapel,” explained Rosemary Costa, director of the Franciscan Place and a member of the Secular Franciscan Order. The chapel and store were opened in 1999 to bring the Gospel message of God’s love to the public and is run by the Franciscan Church of the Assumption on Syracuse’s North side. “St. Francis took his faith to the marketplace and took it out to people, and what better place to do that than in a mall,” Costa said.
Mass is celebrated Monday through Friday and confessions are available Monday through Saturday by Franciscan priests who serve at the chapel. There is also adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Friday afternoons and the rosary is said on Wednesdays. The expansion of The Franciscan Place allows for the addition of new programs such as a book club, children’s story hour, movie nights and discussion groups.
