Sister Mary Roger Lemke, OSF (Agnes Mary Lemke), went home to God on Aug. 27 at Franciscan Villa. She was born in Utica to Albert and Catherine Winkler Lemke. She was a Sister of St. Francis for 80 years.
Sister Mary Roger received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from The College of St. Rose in Albany and a master’s degree in elementary education from Scranton University in Scranton, Pa.
Her ministries included teaching in the states of New York, New Jersey, Ohio and Hawaii. She was also the director of the Microfilm Department at St. Joseph’s Hospital. During her later years, Sister Mary Roger worked in the Communication Office at St. Anthony’s Convent.
Sister Mary Roger will always be remembered for her years of devoted service to her Community and in the hearts of those who knew and loved her as a loyal, loving and caring sister with a great sense of humor.
She is pre-deceased by three brothers, Edward, George, and Albert Lemke and one sister, Catherine Driemiller.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews and the Sisters of St. Francis.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 2 at the Franciscan Villa Chapel. Interment followed at Assumption Cemetery.
