Sister Rosanne LaManche, OSF, (Alberta LaManche), 93, went home to God Sept. 23 at the Franciscan Villa in Syracuse. She was born in East Syracuse, to Albert and Martha (Wise) LaManche. For 75 years she had been a Sister of St. Francis.
Sister Rosanne graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, received a bachelor’s degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and a master’s degree in gerontology from Syracuse University. She was a certified OR technician, a nurse practitioner in adult care and certified in gerontology.
During her 53 years of nursing, she ministered at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica; Mercy Hospital in Auburn; St. Francis Hospital in Hawaii; as nursing supervisor in Molokai, Hawaii; Loretto Rest in Syracuse; and the Jolenta Convent. For almost 25 years, Sister Rosanne served as a visiting and public health nurse of CNY and as a family care minister.
She will always be remembered for her many years of devoted service to her community, parents and family. She was dedicated and extremely conscientious and attentive to the needs of the elderly and marginalized. By her gentle nursing manner, she endeared herself to the very vulnerable persons whom she encountered.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, Edward and William, and a sister, Marion Hitchcock. She is survived by her nieces, nephews and the Sisters of St. Francis.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Sept. 26, at the Franciscan Villa Chapel. A Farewell Service was held on Saturday, Sept. 27 in the Chapel. Interment followed at Assumption Cemetery.
