Race 4 the Cross

Teens attend annual Syracuse Catholic Youth Conference

Hundreds of teens from throughout the Diocese of Syracuse gathered at Bishop Grimes Jr./Sr. High School in East Syracuse on Saturday, March 7 for the 2015 “Race 4 the Cross” youth rally, focused on faith, fellowship and having fun.

To kick off the event, sponsored by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, teens enjoyed a worship rock concert featuring the spiritual and soulful sounds of the Ike Ndolo Band from Phoenix, Ariz. As the teens crowded toward the stage, the band invited several teens onto the stage to show off their “Syracuse” dance moves. Following the concert, Paul George, a Christian  speaker and evangelist, entertained the teens with stories of his Southern family and shared how to create a strong and loving relationship with God.

Following George, the teens participated in various workshops, enjoyed a pizza lunch and happily bounced around on giant inflatables. They also went to confession and participated in a service project: creating Easter candy bags for the Bishop Foery Foundation Neighborhood Center in Syracuse and birthday cards for homeless people throughout the diocese. The day’s event concluded with Mass celebrated by Bishop Robert J. Cunningham and Adoration.
