Retreat for Separated and Divorced to be held

Those going through separation and divorce will have an opportunity for healing August 28 – 30. The Family Life Education Office will offer the 15th annual Healing Retreat for Separated & Divorced at Christ the King Retreat House in Syracuse. The theme of the retreat is “Embracing God’s Healing Light.”

Pope Francis has convened an extraordinary synod to explore the dynamics of the modern day family and has encouraged a more welcoming and understanding outreach from us all towards those who endure separation and divorce, noted Dean Brainard, separated and divorced coordinator. “We hope to help anyone who has gone through or is currently going through separation and divorce heal and find hope,” he said.

The weekend retreat offers fellowship through small group sharing, testimonials and shared meals.

“Our retreatants last year, and for the past 15 years, have remarked on how transformational the experience is and how they appreciate the friendships and courage they come away from the experience with,” remarked Brainard.

Father Lou Sogliuzzo, SJ, will preside over the welcoming liturgy Friday evening.

Dr. Terry O’Brien, a family therapist, will deliver the keynote address on Saturday morning. “He is a sought-out expert and all will benefit from his uplifting and practical message on how to work through the difficulty presented by separation and divorce and transform the transition into a hopeful new beginning,” Brainard said.

On Saturday evening, Father Amedeo Guida will preside over a healing liturgy.

There will be time allotted for rest and relaxation. There will also be an opportunity to connect one-on-one with a priest.
Registration options include a full weekend stay for $150, which includes all meals, activities and overnight accommodations; $95 for a full weekend commuter rate, which includes all meals and activities; and $50 for Saturday only, which includes all meals and activities. Tuition assistance is also available.

Contact Brainard at (315) 727-7524 or dbrainard@syrdio.org to register or for more information.
