St. Mary’s students bring angels, smiles to seniors

BALDWINSVILLE — In honor of this month’s Feast of the Guardian Angels, Sandra Vinette’s second grade class at St. Mary’s Academy created special “angels” to be distributed to senior residents of St. Mary’s Apartments.

The students have been busy this year learning about serving people in the communities around them and serving God. Through this unique service project, students put classroom knowledge into practice by crafting a “guardian angel” from a colorful dishtowel, accompanied by a blessing, and distributing it to a senior during a recent class trip.

“Both the seniors and the children got a great deal of joy and satisfaction from this visit,” stated Renae Henderson, principal of St. Mary’s School. “The students saw the happiness [the visit and angels] brought and we are already trying to come up with ways to go there again. The seniors really loved seeing the children and having a visitor was a real treat for some of them.”
