The Catholic Sun earns five awards from Catholic Press Association

The Catholic Sun’s news and feature writing has earned five awards from the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada.

The association held its annual Catholic Media Conference June 1-3 in St. Louis, Mo. Awards were presented June 3.

The Catholic Sun took home the following awards:

First Place: Best Feature Writing for “‘Merton speaks to us today’: The ‘perennial wisdom’ of Trappist Monk and spiritual writer Thomas Merton” by Renée K. Gadoua

Third Place: Best Feature Writing for “In new location, Samaritan Center will feed body and soul” by Katherine Long

Honorable Mention: Best Feature Writing for “Our Family in Philly: At the World Meeting of Families, the Denkenbergers grow in knowledge, love” by Katherine Long

Second Place: Best News Writing Originating with the Paper on a Local or Regional Event for “‘A humble man who challenged us to be better people’: Remembering Jerry Berrigan, longtime Catholic advocate for peace” by Renée K. Gadoua

Third Place: Best News Writing Originating with the Paper on a Local or Regional Event for “Cardinal, Dolphins discuss opposition surrounding Le Moyne commencement address” by Katherine Long
