Rosary Rally slated for Oct. 2 at Syracuse basilica

The 46th annual Rosary Rally will be held Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Syracuse.

Admission is free to the event, which is sponsored by the basilica’s Rosary Society. It is set for 2-3 p.m. at the basilica at 927 Park Ave.

The rosary rally includes Marian hymns, recitation of the rosary, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, recitation of the Magnificat, and recitation of the Litany of The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Life.

In this Year of Divine Mercy, the basilica invites the public to pray the living rosary for peace in their lives, in the community, and in the world.  The living rosary means that a different person will intone each Hail Mary.

Giving the homily on the topic of Divine Mercy will be Rector Father Andrew Baranski of the basilica. Also attending will be basilica Parochial Vicar Father Stanislaw Kardas and the basilica’s Deacons: Richard Galloway, James Morse, and Frank Timson.

Basilica organist Frank Schultz will direct two choirs, one in Polish and one in English. Schultz’s wife, Andrea, will sing the “Ave Maria.” Doreen Bosch, director of the basilica’s junior girls choir, will direct that group.

All are welcome. Rosary Rally chairperson Mary Szczech, a member of the Rosary Society, said the society will be at the doors giving out a program book and rosary beads to anyone who does not have them.

Free refreshments will follow in the church hall.
