Onondaga Community College will hold its 55th commencement May 1, during which nearly 1,100 students will be eligible to receive degrees. Also receiving an honorary degree will be Michael Melara, CEO of Catholic Charities of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, Inc., and Executive Director of the Onondaga County agency.
Melara will receive an honorary degree, “the highest form of recognition offered by the State University of New York to persons of exceptional distinction.”
“OCC is honoring four distinct individuals who have exhibited professional excellence, meritorious and outstanding service, and whose accomplishments serve as examples of the SUNY system’s diverse student body,” OCC said in a press release.
The four honorees are Melara; Evelyn C. Carter, Director of Community Relations, Wegmans; Mary Beth Frey, Executive Director, Samaritan Center; and Wayne O’Connor, Regional Executive Director of Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection.
