Bishop Borys Gudziak to offer lecture May 8

Bishop Borys Gudziak — bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saint Vladimir the Great of Paris; director of external relations for the Greek Catholic Church; president of the Ukrainian Catholic University in L’viv, Ukraine; and native of Syracuse — will speak at his alma mater, Syracuse University, May 8.

In his lecture, titled “Ukrainian Catholic University: 21st-Century University in a Post-Communist Land,” Bishop Gudziak will relate his experiences as president of the university over the past 25 years, including detective stories, conflicts with the former KGB, revolutions, the killing of one of its young faculty members, and the school’s rise to success.

The lecture will be offered Tuesday, May 8, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Maxwell Auditorium at Syracuse University. A reception will follow.

Bishop Gudziak also will receive an honorary degree at SU’s commencement ceremony May 13.
