The Catholic Sun won two awards at the 40th Annual Syracuse Press Club Professional Recognition Awards Dinner on May 5 at the Genesee Grande Hotel in Syracuse.

Associate Editor Tom Maguire won First Place for Non-Daily Newspaper Human Interest Feature or Series for his Oct. 12, 2017, story: “How can a kid do this?” The story profiles musician Dominic Fiacco, 13, from the Village of Poland, who plays the organ at Masses at St. Joseph-St. Patrick Church in Utica. The Sun will be covering Dominic’s performance in “The Great Organ: It’s Sunday” program on May 13 at Manhattan’s Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.

Sun Graphics Production/Design Coordinator Willie Putmon, competing in the All Print category, won Second Place for Front Page Design for a selection of three cover page layouts.
