About Us
About the Catholic Sun
The Catholic Sun is the official news media serving the people of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse. We inform, educate and evangelize on local, national and international Catholic news, views and teachings.
The Sun was established in 1892 as a private publication. It was purchased for the diocese by Bishop Joseph O’Keefe in 1988.
The Sun serves the seven counties of the diocese – Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego. Since September 2022, The Catholic Sun has been published via 26 print and digital issues per year, as well as a free, e-mailed Digital Update on the opposite 26 weeks. A subscription costs just $26 per year ($31 outside the diocese). The Sun’s website, thecatholicsun.com, is updated daily.
