About Us
The official news medium of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, NY
Founded in 1892, The Catholic Sun is the official news media ministry of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, serving Catholics across Central New York, the Southern Tier, and Mohawk Valley. Through trusted journalism rooted in faith, The Sun informs, educates, and evangelizes by sharing local, national, and international Catholic news, perspectives, and teachings.
Originally established as a private publication, The Catholic Sun was purchased for the Diocese of Syracuse by Bishop Joseph O’Keefe in 1988. Today, it continues its mission of connecting the faithful throughout the diocese’s seven counties: Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga and Oswego.
Since September 2022, The Catholic Sun has published 26 print and digital issues annually, along with a free emailed Digital Update delivered during the alternate 26 weeks of the year. The Catholic Sun also maintains a daily online presence through its website, thecatholicsun.com.
Annual subscriptions are available for $30 within the diocese and $35 outside the diocesan region.
