On Monday, Nov. 24, Blessed Sacrament School in Syracuse continued its long-standing annual tradition (26 years!) of making pumpkin pies to donate to the Rescue Mission for Thanksgiving meals. With over 200 pies donated this year, Blessed Sacrament is the number one outsource of pies received by the Rescue Mission for the Thanksgiving holiday. Students in pre-K through sixth grade participated in pie making in the school’s cafeteria, with fifth-grade students helping the Tiny Eagles and sixth-grade students helping the pre-K students. Each student receives a bowl and proceeds through the various ingredient stations to get their pumpkin pie ready for pouring into the pie shell. The students’ excitement is evident as they move from station to station, knowing that they are creating something for those in need. The students were joined by parent volunteers, school alumni, Dr. Amy Sansone, Bishop Douglas J. Lucia, and Father Severine, all of whom helped in the pie-making process. This project is a hands-on lesson in gratitude, generosity, and serving others.
