Second election held this year

The Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities (SOSF), headquartered in Syracuse, announced the election of a new leadership team:

Sister Ann Bremmer was elected general minister. She most recently served as the pastoral associate at Holy Spirit Parish in Lawrence County, Penn.

Sister Ann Kenyon was elected assistant general minister. Before joining leadership, she served on the spiritual care team and Franciscan education at Francis House, a home for the terminally ill and an SOSF-sponsored ministry in Syracuse.

Sister Amy Williams was elected general councilor. She last ministered as a hospice nurse in Pittsburgh, Penn.

Sister Donna McGartland was also elected general councilor. She was a member of the previous leadership and ministered as the director of ministry and life transitions for the congregation’s sisters.

The new team was installed during a special Eucharist Liturgy on Dec. 7, celebrated by Diocese of Syracuse Bishop Douglas J. Lucia.

It was the second leadership election the congregation held in 146 days, necessitated by the death of Sister Rita Marie Fritzen. Sister Rita was elected general minister at the congregation’s General Chapter in July but passed away less than a month after her installation.

Over 200 Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities serve in education, healthcare, parishes, agencies supporting people living in poverty, and prayer ministry. They reside and minister in Buffalo, Syracuse, and Mt. Vernon, NY; Pittsburgh and Scranton, Penn.; Honolulu and Kalaupapa, Hawaii; Florida, Washington, D.C., Illinois, South Carolina, and Lima, Peru.
