Lent — the season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving — began last week in parishes throughout the Diocese of Syracuse and churches around the world. Ash Wednesday services ranged from simple prayer and ashes to celebrations of the Mass and the Eucharist.
Msgr. Neal Quartier, rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse, shared with those gathered at noon for Mass and ashes a “great quote” he had come across earlier in the day. “Let today be the day you give up what you’ve been for who you can become.” He added that Lent is a time “to get grounded in what is really important, a chance to look at our priorities and deepen our relationship with our God.”
