Bishop Robert J. Cunningham will celebrate a special Year of the Family Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Nov. 18 at 9:45 a.m. The Mass will be interpreted for the Deaf community.

Bishop Cunningham has requested that pastors select one family to represent each diocesan parish at the liturgy. The family will receive a special blessing to bring back to their parish for the conclusion of the Year of the Family the following weekend, November 24/25 (Feast of Christ the King). Parishes will receive a special liturgy for closing Masses and families who attended the Nov. 18 Mass will lead their parish in a blessing.

The Year of the Family in the Diocese of Syracuse began on Dec. 3, 2017. “During this year, it is my hope that parishes will reach out to parents and families in new and different ways that will result in a growing desire to know, live, and share the Catholic faith,” Bishop Cunningham wrote in his related pastoral letter, “Enriching the Church: The Role of the Family in the Life of the Church of Syracuse and Beyond.” Bishop Cunningham will also celebrate Mass to close the Year of the Family at 9:45 a.m. at the Cathedral on Sunday, Nov. 25.
