Individuals and families living in Broome County will have the opportunity to sign up for a Thanksgiving basket put together through the generosity of local parishes, donors, and business organizations. Baskets will include items needed for a wonderful holiday meal.
Sign-ups for baskets will take place through Oct. 17 and will be held by calling the United Way 211 phone number (dial 211) or by calling 1-800-901-2180. United Way 211 will take calls from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until Friday, Oct. 17, or until the limited number of baskets has been reached (whichever occurs sooner).
One Thanksgiving basket will be provided per household for those in need. Please have information on hand for every person within the household prior to making the 211 call. Callers will be asked to present verification of name and address at the time of the basket pickup.
All families signed up for a basket will receive a reminder text, phone call, or mailed document 1 to 2 weeks prior to Thanksgiving Day. This will provide information on the date, time, and location of the basket pick-up. Families should expect to pick up their baskets on the weekend of Nov. 22-23.
The Thanksgiving basket coordination program is a joint effort between Catholic Charities, iHeart Media, United Way 211, local parishes, first responders, and several other local contributing businesses.
