The Diocese of Syracuse released the following statement May 15:
Mr. Matthew Rawson of Syracuse, N.Y., will become the newest transitional deacon in the Diocese of Syracuse when he is ordained at his home parish of St. James Church in Syracuse on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Matthew’s ordination will be the next step on his journey to become a priest.
Matthew is the son of Ralph and Donna Rawson and graduated from Corcoran High School in 2009. Following graduation, he attended Onondaga Community College and St. John’s University. Matthew attends St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore. He served his Pastoral Year at St. Joseph’s Church in Endicott and his spent the summer of 2014 at St. Peter’s Church in Rome. Matthew will return to St. Joseph’s this summer before returning to St. Mary’s to complete his final year of seminary studies in the fall of 2017.
Matthew will be ordained at St. James Church in Syracuse on May 20 at 10 a.m. He is anticipated to be ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Syracuse in June of 2018.
The Diocese of Syracuse spans seven counties and operates under the leadership of Bishop Robert J. Cunningham.
