The Diocesan Pastoral Council (DPC) last met on Sept. 21 to discuss topics such as July’s National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis and faithful citizenship during the upcoming election.

The National Eucharistic Congress hosted several nationally known speakers throughout the five-day event, including author and commentator Gloria Purvis, known for her strong Catholic voice on life issues, religious liberty and racial justice.

After DPC members viewed the video of Purvis speaking on Catholic unity and disunity, Bishop Douglas J. Lucia asked each for their personal takeaways. “We are all one, created in the image of God” comprised over one-third of the responses.

Purvis’s full speech can be viewed on YouTube.com. She is also the host of her own podcast, The Gloria Purvis Podcast.

DPC vice chairperson Chris Gorman led a discussion on changes pertaining to the DPC constitution, and Bishop Lucia spoke on faithful citizenship during the election season. Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. Bishop’s column, Decision Time, was published in the Sept. 12 issue of The Catholic Sun. His words are offered as a guide to educating ourselves on Catholic teaching and tradition and forming our conscience as we prepare to vote. The column, a copy of Bishop’s Aug. 25 homily, can also be found on our website at https://thecatholicsun.com/decision-time/.

The DPC will next meet on Saturday, November 16 at Holy Cross Church, Dewitt.
