The Archdiocese of New York has released a limited number of tickets to dioceses across the state for the Sept. 25 Papal Mass at Madison Square Garden. The Diocese of Syracuse is giving subscribers of The Catholic Sun a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enter a lottery and win tickets!

Mass at Madison Square Garden, Friday, Sept. 25
Details:
- Doors open at 2:00 PM. Ticketholders must arrive no later than 3:30.
- Given the required early arrival, there will be a two-hour pre-event beginning at 3:00 entitled ‘The Archdiocese of New York in collaboration with The Archbishop Fulton Sheen Center for Thought and Culture Presents Journey of Faith.’
- Confessions will be heard before Mass.
- Concession stands will be open for food and beverages.
- Papal visit merchandise will be sold at Madison Square Garden prior to Mass.
- At the conclusion of the Mass, all attendees should expect to remain in place for about thirty (30) minutes, until the Holy Father has left the arena.
Tickets:
- 87 pairs of tickets will be available.
- You must be a subscriber of The Catholic Sun to be eligible to win. One (1) entry per household.
- Actual tickets will not be printed until early September. All entries for the Diocese of Syracuse ticket lottery must be received by 11:59 PM EST on Sept. 14. The diocese will choose winners at random on Sept. 15. Winners will be notified on Sept. 15 and may choose to have their tickets mailed to them or opt to pick them up at the Chancery building in Syracuse. Tickets are non-transferable.
- Please do not contact the Diocese of Syracuse or The Catholic Sun regarding the outcome of the ticket lottery until Sept. 15. Do not contact the Archdiocese of New York with regard to the Diocese of Syracuse ticket lottery.
Information for winners of the ticket lottery:
- You will not have to provide names and social security numbers of each ticket holder as was required during Pope Benedict’s visit in 2008, but all ticket holders will need to abide by the arrival time and will have to go through security checkpoints. PLEASE NOTE: It will be a very long day and the city will be very difficult to navigate. People with special needs are advised to plan accordingly, and are encouraged to contact the Archdiocese of New York well in advance if they require special assistance.
Transportation:
- The Pope’s visit coincides with the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly. The NYPD and Secret Service are expecting as many as 200 world leaders to be in the city, which will make it extremely difficult to get around. The Archdiocese of New York expects there to be many street closures and massive gridlock; therefore, ticketholders are strongly encouraged to take advantage of public transportation.
- If a ticketholder chooses to drive to Manhattan, please note that they will likely experience difficulty entering Manhattan/finding parking and may therefore miss the window to enter Madison Square Garden on time.
- The Diocese of Syracuse is not responsible for arranging transportation for winners of the ticket lottery. Winners are responsible for all costs associated with travel to and from NYC.
