Father Stanley Dudkiewicz, a native of Kielce, Poland, died Jan. 5. He was 96 years old, the oldest priest serving in the Diocese of Syracuse.

Father Dudkiewicz was ordained in Kielce in 1952. He came to the United States on retreat in 1970 and stayed due to the political climate at home, according to Sun archives. He connected with his friend in the Syracuse Diocese, Msgr. Casimir Krzysiak, joining him at Holy Trinity Parish in Utica in 1973. He moved to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Syracuse in 1975, retiring from there in 2011.

Calling hours for Father Dudkiewicz will be held Jan. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse; Vigil for a Deceased Priest will follow at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. at the Basilica; it will also be livestreamed.
