In memoriam: Sister Vivian (Monica) Secor, OSF

Sister Vivian Secor went home to God on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the Franciscan Villa in Syracuse. Sister was born on July 5, 1941 in Albany to Howard and Mary Anderson Secor. She was 83 years old and had been a Sister of St. Francis for 66 years.

Sister’s ministry of service to the people of God led her to spend 31 years lovingly caring for and teaching the children of God in various Catholic schools in New Jersey, California and New York.  Following teaching, Sister ministered as a home health aide with Home Aides of Central New York; a microfilm clerk at St. Joseph’s Hospital and then as a switchboard operator at both St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Anthony Convent and Motherhouse. Her final ministry was that of prayer minister at the Franciscan Villa.

Sister was predeceased by her parents; brothers Howard B., Charles K. and Donald R. Secor; Sisters-in-law Geraldine H. Secor and June F. Secor and cousins. Sister is survived by one nephew Gary Secor, one niece Sharon Feltes and the Sisters of St. Francis.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Franciscan Villa Chapel, 6900 Buckley Road, Syracuse on Thursday, March 20. Visitation was held the morning of the same day in the Chapel. Interment followed in Assumption Cemetery.
