Sister Diane Louttit, D.C., 72, a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul for 45 years, died Sept. 13, 2018, at St. Louise House in Albany.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 17, 2018, at DePaul House Chapel, Albany; burial followed at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, N.Y.
Born in Endicott on April 23, 1946, Sister Diane (baptized Diane Marie) was one of two children born to Charles and Geraldine (Fudge) Louttit. Sister Diane graduated from Seton Catholic High School, Endicott, in 1964. She completed her associate of arts degree in 1967 at Broome Technical Community College, Binghamton; her bachelor of science degree in elementary education in 1969 from State University of New York, Brockport; and her concentration in reading certification in 1972 at State University of New York, Cortland.
Sister Dianne entered the Community of the Daughters of Charity in April 1973 from St. Ambrose Church, Endicott. Following initial formation, Sister Diane taught in Wilmington, Del., (1974 to 1978); Bridgeport, Conn., (1978 to 1981); again in Wilmington, (1981 to 1988); and at Cathedral School, Syracuse (1988 to 1990). Sister Diane then served as chaplain at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton (1990 to 1992).
She further served in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Lewiston. Sister served as a chaplain at Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, Binghamton (2010 to 2016; during this time, Sister served as the Local Community Superior).
Sister Diane joined the Ministry of Prayer in December 2016 at St. Louise House, Albany; she served there until the time of her death.
Many Daughters recall Sister Diane’s great sense of humor and ability to ad-lib and move forward no matter what the situation.
Sister Diane was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Ann Mauriello. She is survived by her nephew, Anthony (Tony), and his wife, Coleen Mauriello; her nieces, Amelia and Ava Mauriello; her nephews, John Michael Foley and Charles Foley; her many friends especially Sister Katie McNamara, O.C.S.O; and Daughters of Charity Sister Companions at St. Louis House, Albany.
