A group of parishioners from St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Binghamton lent their time and talent to recycle furniture and rekindle the gift of storytelling.
The volunteers took some old chairs and painted or refinished them in bright, colorful fashion, making them ready to be donated to the local Head Start program. Teachers will use the chairs as story time centerpieces, a comfortable place to sit while the youngsters gather around to listen to stories and share some peaceful moments.
The parishioners were recognized for their contributions during a recent Mass. Bernadette Mars, coordinator of this project, spoke briefly after Mass.
