SYRACUSE — Father Christopher Celentano celebrated the Mass next to his father, Deacon Joseph Celantano, at the Vigil for the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph on Dec. 26 at St. Daniel Church.
Father Celentano is pastor of St. Rose of Lima in North Syracuse; Deacon Celantano is the deacon for St. Daniel.
“We’re very grateful [to] both of them for being here,” St. Daniel Cantor and Choir Director Jonathan English told the congregation before the livestreamed Mass.
Father Celentano began his homily with a big smile and said:
“Well, it’s good to be back, it’s good to be home. If you don’t know me, well, you heard Jon in the beginning, that I’m a Celentano and I grew up here. So any time I have an opportunity to come back, I feel at home. And this place was a special place for me and the family, so I’m honored to be able to be with you. You know our prayers continue to be with Monsignor [Eugene Yennock, St. Daniel’s pastor, who is ill], that he continue on his road to recovery.”
He smilingly added that Msgr. Yennock knows that he grew up there: “He’s probably watching me right now, and I’ll hear from him later.”
