Today, June 18, marks Bishop Robert J. Cunningham’s 75th birthday. This is the day on which canon law requires him to submit a letter of resignation to the Holy Father.
In advance of this momentous day, Bishop Cunningham sat for an interview with the Sun to offer a look back at his time as shepherd of the diocese and a look ahead at what the future may hold for the local Church and its yet-to-be-named eleventh bishop.
This afternoon, the Sun was lucky enough to tag along with the bishop as he put his letter in the mail.
And earlier this morning, colleagues and friends gathered to celebrate the bishop, complete with bagpipe music, cake, and video greetings.
