Bishop Robert J. Cunningham offered the following statement June 14:
“The Diocese of Syracuse expresses its heartfelt prayers to all those involved in the Orlando shooting — the innocent victims, the survivors, and the loved ones of those whose lives have been taken. This senseless act of domestic terrorism has left the people of our diocese questioning the motivation behind such an act. We must agree that hatred and bigotry cannot be tolerated. I urge our people to join in prayer for the members of the gay and lesbian community and the Latino community in Orlando who are so deeply affected by this tragedy.”
