Bishop Lucia announces additional diocesan priest assignments

Bishop Douglas J. Lucia is announcing additional Clergy Appointments in the Diocese of Syracuse:

Reverend Christopher Seibt, appointed Pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Cicero, New York, and Vice Chancellor of the Diocese of Syracuse. This appointment is in addition to his role as Pastor of Divine Mercy Parish, Central Square, and St. Bernadette Mission, Constantia. As Vice Chancellor, Father Seibt will be responsible for the parish canonical processes and will continue to serve as the Episcopal Master of Ceremonies. He will no longer serve as the Diocesan Director of Liturgy & R.C.I.A. This appointment is effective, August 1, 2023.

Reverend Msgr. Timothy Elmer, appointed interim Administrator of Sacred Heart Church, Cicero, in addition to his role as Judicial Vicar for the Diocese of Syracuse. This appointment is effective July 1, 2023. Effective August 1, 2023, Msgr. Elmer will become the Parochial Vicar of Sacred Heart Church, Cicero and Divine Mercy Parish, Central Square.

Reverend Msgr. James Lang, appointed Administrator of St. Thomas Church in New Hartford, in addition to his current role as Administrator of St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford and Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills. Monsignor Lang remains the Diocesan Vicar for Parishes.

Correction:

Reverend Paschal Anionye, a priest of the Diocese of Warri, Nigeria, has been appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Margaret Church, Mattydale, in addition to providing chaplaincy work at Syracuse hospitals. Effective May 7, 2023. (It was previously announced that Fr. Paschal was a priest of the Diocese of Enugu. He is from the Diocese of Warri).

This is a summary of previous diocesan priest announcements made over the past several weeks:

The following pastors are retiring, effective July 1, 2023 – Rev. James Carey, currently pastor of the Church of the Nativity including: St. Leo Church, Tully; St. Patrick Church, Otisco; St. Joseph Church, Lafayette; and Immaculate Conception, Pompey; Rev. Richard Dunn, currently pastor of St. Mary of the Lake, Skaneateles; Rev. Vincent Long currently pastor of the Parish Community of St. Leo & St. Ann in Holland Patent; Rev. Joseph Salerno, currently pastor of Mary, Mother of our Savior Church, Utica; Rev. G. David Sears, currently pastor of St. Thomas Parish in New Hartford; Rev. John Werner, currently pastor of St. Mary Church and St. Paul Church, Binghamton. The Diocese of Syracuse is most grateful for their years of dedicated service.

Rev. Paul Angelicchio appointed Pastor of St. Leo/St. Ann Church, Holland Patent, in addition to his current role of Pastor of St. John the Baptist/Transfiguration Church, Rome. Effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. Kevin Bunger will be providing sacramental assistance to the Parish Community of St. Leo & St. Ann in Holland Patent, New York effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. James Buttner, ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 2023, has been appointed Parochial Vicar of Spirit of Hope Catholic Community, which comprises the parishes of St. Agatha Church, Canastota, New York; St. Joseph Church, Oneida, New York; St. Patrick Church, Oneida, New York; St. Helena Church, Sherill, New York; St. Mary of the Lake Mission, Verona Beach, New York; and Holy Family Church, Vernon, New York. Effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. Nathan Brooks, currently Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph Church, Oneida; St. Patrick Church, Oneida; Holy Family Church, Vernon; St. Helena, Sherill; St. Agatha Chcrch, Canastota; St. Mary of the Lake, Verona Beach, has been appointed administrator of the Church of the Nativity including: St. Leo Church, Tully; St. Patrick Church, Otisco; St. Joseph Church, Lafayette; and Immaculate Conception, Pompey, effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. Daniel Caughey, currently administrator of St. Malachy Church, Sherburne and St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus, New Berlin. Appointed pastor of the same parishes, effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. James Cesta, currently  pastor of St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, appointed pastor of St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church, while remaining pastor of St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. John Donovan, currently Pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Cicero, has been appointed Pastor of St. Mary Church, Hamilton, New York; St. Joan of Arc Mission, Morrisville, New York; St. Joseph Church, Oriskany Falls, New York; St. Bernard Church, Waterville, New York; and with sacramental ministry at Colgate University. This assignment is in addition to his role as Vicar for Canonical Services for the Diocese of Syracuse. Effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. Amedeo Guida, currently serving as sacramental provider of St. Joseph/St. Patrick Church, Utica, will continue to serve as sacramental provider at St. Joseph/St. Patrick Church, Utica, New York. Effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. Jason Hage, currently pastor of St. Mary Church, Hamilton; St. Joan of Arc, Morrisville; St. Joseph Church, Oriskany Falls; St. Bernard Church, Waterville; sacramental minister at Colgate University, and Diocesan Director of Vocation Promotion has been appointed pastor of Mary, Mother of our Savior, Utica, and remains the Director of Vocation Promotion, effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. Mark Kaminski, currently pastor of St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church, Utica, and the Director of Formation for the Permanent Deacons, appointed pastor of Church of the Sacred Heart/St. Mary, Our Lady of Czestochowa, New York Mills, while remaining Director of Formation for the Permanent Deacons, effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. Arthur Krawczenko, currently pastor of Church of the Sacred Heart/St. Mary, Our Lady of Czestochowa, New York Mills, appointed pastor of St. Mary Church and St. Paul Church, Binghamton, effective July 1, 2023.

Rev.John Kurgan has been appointed Canonical Pastor of St. Ann Church, Manlius, effective July 1, 2023. This is in addition to his current pastorate at Holy Cross, DeWitt; as Administrator of St. Anthony of Padua, Syracuse; and his role as Vicar General of the Diocese of Syracuse.

Rev. Brian Lang, currently pastor of St. Anne Church, Manlius, has been appointed pastor of St. Mary of the Lake, Skaneateles, effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. Tony Mathew, a priest of the Heralds of Good News, Mother Theresa Province and a native of India, has been appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Bartholomew Church and St. Paul Church, Norwich. Effective May 18, 2023.

Rev. Eduardo Pesigan, III, a native of the Archdiocese of Caceres, Philippines, has been appointed Parochial Vicar of the North Utica parishes. Effective July 1, 2023.

Rev. Matthew Rawson, currently administrator of Christ our Hope Parish which comprises St. Joseph’s Church, Boonville; St. Patrick’s Church, Forestport; and the seasonal chapel, St. Mary of the Snows Oratory, Otter Lake, appointed pastor effective July 1, 2023.Rev. Thomas Servatius – Currently pastor of Historic Old St. John’s Church, appointed pastor of St. Mark’s Church, Utica; St. Peter’s Church, Utica; and St. Joseph/St. Patrick Church, Utica, in addition to Historic Old St. John’s, Utica, effective July 1, 2023.

Deacon Robert Street, currently serving as parish deacon at St. Ann Church, Manlius, has been appointed interim Parish Life Director of St. Ann Church, Manlius, New York. Additionally, Reverend Michael Carmola and Reverend Malachi Clark will provide sacramental coverage. Effective July 1, 2023.
