Most Rev. Robert J. Cunningham will recognize seminarian Malachi Clark as a worthy candidate for the priesthood on Sunday, July 29, at 12:15 p.m. at Holy Family Church, Syracuse.

The Rite of Candidacy is a confirmation by the Church that a candidate for the priesthood has given himself to the best of his ability to the process of formation toward reception of Holy Orders. After the required period of formation as a seminarian, he is ordained to serve as a transitional deacon prior to ordination to the priesthood.
Clark is the son of Courtney and Mari Jo Clark and has six brothers, one sister, and fifty-eight nieces and nephews. Clark grew up in Binghamton where he attended Sts. John and Andrew Parish.
“I was interested in priesthood from a very young age — three or four years old,” he said.
Clark attended Broome Community College and Cathedral Seminary in Douglaston and St. John’s University in Queens. He went on to major seminary at St. Mary’s in Baltimore. After his first year at St. Mary’s, Clark was assigned to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Syracuse for the summer of 2016. He completed a summer course in pastoral education at SUNY Upstate Medical Hospital and is currently spending his pastoral year at Holy Family Church in Syracuse.
