The spirit of St. Patrick is celebrated throughout our diocese each March, especially in our schools. Immaculate Conception School in Fayetteville noted the Irish saint’s feast with Mass celebrated by Fr. Philip Hearn and assisted by Mrs. DeVito’s 3rd Grade class. Students participated as readers and gift bearers. One of the gifts offered was a Shamrock plant, the great symbol of Ireland and St. Patrick, their patron saint. Students learned that the shamrock also represents the Holy Trinity, meaning one leaf for God the Father, another for Christ the Son and the third for the Holy Spirit.

IC School’s music teacher, Ms. Constantine, conducted the 3rd grade class in singing St. Patrick’s Breastplate, a traditional hymn sang at the Mass with the students waving green and white streamers while offering a beautiful a cappella rendition of the song. Three of the school’s 5th grade students assisted as altar servers.
