Class of 2017 Valedictorian: Cara Smith
Cara Smith is the daughter of Brian and Barbara Smith. She will be attending Cornell University majoring in Biological Engineering in the fall. Her extra-curricular activities have included membership in Bishop Ludden’s Theater Program, Science Olympiad and Chemistry Club, varsity soccer, the Lumen Christi Chapter of National Honor Society, Youth in Ministry through her local parish, as well as Peer Leadership at Ludden. Service work is an activity of special importance to Cara. Outside of academics she spends a great deal of her time volunteering at her church through the Youth in Ministry program. Last year she completed a three-year counselor-in- training program at Camp Talooli and will be working as a counselor for the second summer in a row. In her spare time, Cara enjoys going on adventures with friends and binge watching a few different television series for relaxation.
Cara is a young woman who is passionate, determined and reliable. She is someone who is always willing to help others and her advice to her graduating class is to “work hard and always defend the ones you love.” One of the greatest skills Cara learned at Bishop Ludden is “how to get along with and work with others even if you don’t see eye-to-eye.” In the future, Cara’s plan is to pursue a career in research or the medical field.
Class of 2017 Salutatorian- Gabriella Parsons
Gabriella is the daughter of Jeffrey and Maria Parsons. She will be attending Le Moyne College in the fall and will be majoring in Marketing and Business Analytics. Gabriella’s extra-curricular activities have included membership in the Lumen Christi Chapter of National Honor Society, Anti-Bullying Club, Student Government, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program, Peer Leadership and Bishop Ludden’s Theater Program. The two activities of particular importance to Gabriella are Peer Leadership and Bishop Ludden’s Theater Program. Gabriella has been an active participant in the Theater Program and has performed in every production Ludden has put on during all four years of high school. Mr. Pietropaolo, the director of the Bishop Ludden Theater, has influenced her the most in teaching her that “you may not always like what life throws your way, but to learn to just roll with the punches.”
Gabriella is someone who has a big heart filled with empathy and generosity. She is always there for a friend or loved one, no matter what. In her spare time, Gabriella likes to spend time with her family and friends, bake, volunteer for a variety of organizations and exercise. In the future, she plans to pursue a challenging and fulfilling career in marketing and business analytics and stay close to her family.
