Syracuse Bishop Robert J. Cunningham released the following statement July 31:
“The recent news stories concerning Planned Parenthood are shocking and disconcerting.  They draw attention, front and center, to the ugly and damaging reality of abortion.

The stories serve to remind us that abortion is a direct attack on vulnerable human life.  They also demonstrate the sad reality that fetal organs and tissues are routinely harvested, bought and sold in our country.
These actions treat human life as a disposable commodity.  Human beings are meant to be a cherished gift, not thrown away or used for profit.
The Church encourages all people of good will to treat one another with dignity and respect, and to stand together, protect the vulnerable, and to pray unceasingly.
The Church also recognizes that this news coverage may stir traumatic feelings for those who’ve been involved with abortion.  If you or someone you know would like confidential, compassionate help without judgment, please contact the Diocese of Syracuse Project Rachel Ministryat 855-364-0076 or hopeandhealing@syrdio.org.”
