The historic occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church will be celebrated with a First Friday Mass followed by a Day of Renewal.

The First Friday Mass is at 6:30 p.m. May 5 at Sacred Heart Church in Cicero.  The Day of Renewal is 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (closing with a Vigil Mass) Saturday, May 6,  at Drumlins Restaurant, 800 Nottingham Road, Syracuse.

The cost for Saturday’s day of praise, worship, prophecy, and healing is $45, including continental breakfast and lunch.

Speakers will be Bishop Samuel Jacobs and Father Amedeo Guida.

Bishop Emeritus Jacobs is profoundly gifted at empowering people to open up to the power of the Holy Spirit. Bishop Jacobs was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Lafayette, La., in 1964. He has served as chairman of the National Service Committee for the Charismatic Renewal and diocesan director of Vocations and Seminarians for the Diocese of Lake Charles, La.

Bishop Jacobs was appointed the 10th bishop of Alexandria, La., in 1989 and was installed as the third bishop of Houma-Thibodaux, La., in 2003. He retired in October of 2013 and is now the bishop-emeritus of Houma-Thibodaux. He celebrated 50 years of priesthood on June 6, 2014, and marked 25 years of episcopacy on August 24, 2014.

Father Guida, affectionately known as “Padre,” was ordained for the Diocese of Syracuse on June 8, 1985. He served as the bishop’s liaison for the Charismatic Renewal for the diocese from 2004 to 2016. He now serves as the Catholic chaplain for Ave Maria University in Florida. His weekly duties are daily Masses, confessions, and spiritual direction.

He also enjoys offering days of recollection and retreats, and he is sought as a spiritual director to both lay and religious. He is also involved in a healing and deliverance ministry.
