Father Robert S. Stephenson entered into his eternal rest on May 4. He was 69 years old.

Ordained for the Diocese of Syracuse in 1978, Father Stephenson ministered in parishes throughout the diocese, including St. Andrew’s Church in Binghamton, Holy Family in Fulton, St. Paul’s in Oswego, St. John the Evangelist in Syracuse, St. Catherine of Siena in Binghamton, St. Mary of the Assumption in Oswego, Holy Family and St. Michael’s in Fulton, and the Church of the Nativity in LaFayette. He also served as diocesan director of Catholic Charities from 1987 to 1999.

At the time of his 25th jubilee in 2003, Father Stephenson told the Sun, “The past 25 years have been a blessing. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the diocese in many ways.”

Father Stephenson’s Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 9, at Holy Trinity Church in Fulton. Coverage of the Mass and remembrances of his life will appear in next week’s edition of the Sun.
