Volunteers play a vital role in the Hospice program at Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital by providing care and support for terminally ill patients, their families, and friends. Lourdes is offering a training program for those interested in working as volunteers with Lourdes Hospice. Volunteers possess respect for life, a positive outlook, sensitivity, compassion, a sense of humor, and the willingness to help others.
A weekend training series will be held 9 a.m.-noon on Tuesdays and Fridays from April 10-May 11 from at the Hospice office, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal.
A number of topics are covered during the training including the history and philosophy of Hospice care, death-grief-losses, communication skills, and psychological issues. After completing the training and requirements, volunteers have the opportunity to assist in a number of areas: home care, delivery and errands, meals, bereavement, nursing homes, inpatient, office duties, and much more.
Please call 607-584-9159 to reserve your place in the class. A brief pre-training interview must be completed by each participant.
