On May 15, the Central New York Chapter of the Knights of Columbus held their Annual Bishop’s Burse Dinner in Canastota. The evening began with Mass at St. Patrick’s Church in Chittenango, celebrated by Bishop Robert J. Cunningham, followed by dinner attended by seminarians of the Diocese of Syracuse, Knights of Columbus members and their spouses, and Robert Weitzman, New York State Warden.

The goal of the annual dinner is to give councils and assemblies from around the diocese an opportunity to present checks to the bishop to support the vocations program. The idea for the burse, or the funding dinner, began many years ago and has since grown and now other chapters within the state have followed the tradition and hold Burse dinners for their own bishops.

This year, Bishop Cunningham received donations totaling $11,385. Over the years, the chapter has raised over $698,388 for the Bishop’s Burse event.
