First grade students at Blessed Sacrament School in Syracuse baked up 120 pumpkin pies Nov. 23, all of which were donated to the Rescue Mission for its Thanksgiving dinner.

This was the 18th year the school tackled the service project. School staff donated cans of pumpkin, eggs and pie shells.

The project is not only a math lesson on measurement, but a lesson on helping others, according to Principal Andrea Polcaro. “It is our special tradition of gratitude,” she added.
