Bishop Ludden Jr./Sr. High School teacher Suzanne Pietropaolo and Bishop Grimes Jr./Sr. High School teacher Sharon Bearer received excellence in teaching awards recently.

Bearer, a foreign language teacher at Grimes, was selected as a recipient of the 2015 New York State “Teacher Excellence” Award. The award is presented to teachers deserving of recognition for “going above and beyond” to inspire students to learn. Bearer was nominated by her fellow teachers and staff members, as well as students at Grimes. Senator John DeFrancisco presented Bearer, and 30 other teachers from Onondaga County, with an award at a ceremony last month.

Pietropaolo was awarded “Clarkson University’s Inspirational High School Educator Award” at a special dinner the night before commencement at the college. Graduating senior Daniel Horn nominated Pietropaolo for the award in recognition of the lasting impact and inspiration she provided Horn and his classmates when he attended Bishop Ludden. Each year, Clarkson seniors nominate a secondary school educator whom they feel had a significant impact and helped to guide his/her higher education decisions and career pursuits.
