Loretto honors ‘founders and visionaries’

Loretto held its annual celebration luncheon Nov. 12, honoring its “founders and visionaries” — the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse and the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities — with Legacy Awards.
Bishops John Grimes and Daniel Joseph Curley championed efforts to expand health and social service ministries in the diocese. Through their leadership, Loretto Rest became the first Diocesan Home for the Aged in North America. The Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities began providing care to Loretto’s residents in 1927 and they continue to care for retired priests there today.
Charlotte “Chuckie” Holstein was presented the inaugural John J. Costello Distinguished Service Award for Lifetime Achievement, recognizing her extensive service to the community and commitment to improving care for older adults.
Funds raised at the celebration support Loretto residents’ quality of life initiatives, funded by the Loretto Foundation.
