BALDWINSVILLE — Sister Ellen Lindsley of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (pictured above right) presented the Sister Patricia Geary Christian Service Award to St. Augustine’s parishioner Pat Leonard on March 21. The award was accompanied by $1,000 from the parish that Leonard can donate to the non-profit agency of her choice.

The award is given each year in memory of Sister Patricia Geary, CSJ, who was an educator, administrator, pastoral associate, director of diocesan formation for ministry and superior of the Sisters of St. Joseph and who ministered to  St. Augustine’s Parish from 1990-1998. During her ministry, Sister Patricia was an inspiration to parishioners and exemplified the life of Jesus in caring, assisting and respecting others.

Fellow parishioners nominate candidates each year for the award. The parishioner who nominated Leonard this year wrote: “Pat truly exemplifies what Jesus Christ has called us all to do in spreading his Good News. I feel that Pat, like Sr. Pat, lives her life to assist others and respects the dignity of all people.”

Leonard was selected as this year’s award receipient based on her involvement in many ministries at St. Augustine’s, including the St. Joseph’s Day dinner, pastoral visitors, faith formation, buildings and grounds committee and the food pantry. Leonard is also active in the community, providing spiritual care at University Hospital and performing as a professional clown at several children’s charities, the Shriner’s Burn Unit and The Sneaker Foundation.
