BALDWINSVILLE — Karen Parsons was presented with the Sister Patricia Geary Christian Service Award from St. Augustine’s Parish March 5. Parsons is a member of the church’s Social Action Ministry and has organized the Easter and Thanksgiving food drives, as well as being involved in many other activities. In addition to having her name engraved on the plaque in the Sister Pat Geary Gathering Room, Parsons was able to choose two non-profit organizations to which the parish will donate $1,000: the Samaritan Center and Camp Alverna.
Sister Pat Geary, CSJ, began her ministry at St. Augustine’s in 1990. She became a catalyst for growth and change for the parish and also for the many parishioners who worked with her. She raised the level of consciousness of each person of the need for social justice and compassion for all regardless of their position in life.
