Bishop Moynihan Announces New Appointment
Michael Colabufo, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2009. Colabufo has served as the Superintendent of Schools since January 2006. Upon receiving this news, Bishop James M. Moynihan appointed Christopher Mominey as the new superintendent, effective July 1, 2009. Mominey is currently the deputy superintendent of the diocesan Catholic schools.
Colabufo informed Bishop Moynihan of his decision stating, “After some personal reflection, I believe this is the right time for me personally and for our schools to transition into new leadership. I believe our schools are at a juncture in which we need to continue to build on our accomplishments while working toward a new vision to strengthen our Catholic schools in the future.” Colabufo will use the next three months to work with Christopher Mominey in order that there is a seamless transition.
Christopher Mominey is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University with a bachelor of arts degree in theology and received his master’s degree from John Carroll University in religious studies. He is the former director of Campus Ministry at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse and former principal of Rome Catholic School in Rome, N.Y. In July 2008, he was promoted to the role of deputy superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Syracuse. He is a member of the National Catholic Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Chief Administrators of Catholic Education and the NCEA Department of Elementary Schools. He resides in Jamesville with his wife Stephanie and their four children.
